FAQ

FAQ

  • How do I properly dust natural stone?

Keep surface free of dust/dirt by regularly "dusting" floor/countertop with dry cotton dust mop/cloth or by using a dry Swiffer floor mop. If a cotton dust mop is used, regularly machine wash and dry the mop head to remove any dirt/debris.

  • How often should I mop?

Wet mop floor bi-weekly but not more than once a week (see (product link here) for recommended products). More frequent wet mopping can cause a build-up of products on the surface causing more dirt/debris to stick to this build-up.

  • How do I clean and maintain marble & granite floors?

Always use a cotton mop head which can be removed from the mop handle for machine washing and drying. A clean mop = a clean floor. Another key component to wet mopping is keeping your mop water clean (clear). If it begins to get dirty (cloudy), change out your water.

Professional products we recommend: (MB01) Marble, Granite and More Floor Cleaner for floors available in quart or gallon size.

  • Can I remove etching when it occurs?

If etching occurs, it can only be removed by refinishing the area. Placing a topical "wax" or other topical product on these areas will not remove etching and actually reduces the natural appearance of the surface.

  • How do I prevent etching?

A way to help prevent etching is to wipe up spills as quickly a possible after occurrence. Also avoid using any acidic products on your natural stone surfaces.

  • What does etching look like?

When stone is etched it has a low-sheen or dull appearance.

  • How often does marble & granite need to be resurfaced?

This process needs to be done to marble every 3-5 years due to it being such a high maintenance material, but high traffic areas and those that have etched or scratched may need to be done more frequently.

  • Can I seal my marble & granite myself?

Yes, there are sealants you can purchase to protect your stone, but if applied wrong they can cause streaking or haziness to the finish of your natural stone or marble.

  • What products should I avoid using for my natural stone, marble, and granite?

Products to avoid are all acidic based chemicals/liquids. Do not use vinegar, Tilex or similar mildew removal products, citrus based products/soaps, toilet bowl cleaners, or anything not specifically safe for natural marble and stone. Even some Windex products contain vinegar or an acidic based chemical. ALWAYS READ THE LABEL.

  • What products should I look for?

Any products that say "all purpose" or "natural cleaner" are safe to use on marble, granite, or natural stone.

  • Is grinding harmful to my natural stone, granite, or marble?

Grinding creates a new surface to the stone and removes all scratches, etching, & blemishes caused from foot traffic. Grinding, or resurfacing, does not harm the surface or remove any significant amount of material.
